2-Ethylhexanol có một nhóm hydroxyl chính. Nó là một chất lỏng không màu. 2- Ethylhexanol được sử dụng rộng rãi trong sản xuất dioctyl phthalate (ứng dụng vinyl), acrylates, 2-ethylhexyl nitrate, phụ gia dầu bôi trơn, hóa chất khai thác mỏ, chất hóa dẻo đặc biệt, thuốc diệt cỏ và dầu este (khu vực ứng dụng không phải vinyl).
Quy trình sản xuất
Việc sản xuất công nghiệp 2-ethylhexanol là bằng một quy trình ba bước liên quan đến quá trình tự ngưng tụ aldol của n butyraldehyde sau đó là khử nước và hydro hóa. Ban đầu n-butyraldehyde thu được
từ acetaldehyde qua ethylene nhưng điều này đã được thay thế bởi quá trình oxo từ propylene.
